Current Exhibition

The Society of California Pioneers' collection features art, artifacts, and manuscripts held by our non-profit organization since 1850.

For nearly one hundred and seventy-five years, The Society of California Pioneers has been the steward of a collection of historical artifacts that advances the knowledge and appreciation of early California history. The preservation of historically significant items is central to our mission.

Our collection includes over 6,000 objects, 7,000 books, 13,000 documents, and 45,000 photographs primarily covering California’s Mission Period through the First World War. Our current display includes a small sample of artifacts representing the breadth and depth of The Society’s collection. The four exhibition cases contain the following:  archives related to the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire, photographs from the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition, books about the California Mission System, and objects from the California Gold Rush.

Our free public programs are designed to educate and encourage new interpretations that illuminate and honor the diverse experiences of those who came before us.

The Society of California Pioneers provides researchers and the public access to California's unique early history.
